Frontline Learning Research is the third official journal of the European Association for Research on Learning and Instruction (EARLI). The launch of this new journal took place in August 2013 during its 15th Biennial Conference in Munich (Germany).

Prof. Dr. Erno Lethinen (University of Turku, Finland) was the founding editor-in-chief of Frontline Learning Research from 2013 until 2017. He was succeeded by Prof. Dr. Thomas Martens (University of Hamburg, Germany) who was editor-in-chief from 2017 - 2022. Since 2022, Prof. Dr. Nina B. Dohn (University of Southern Denmark, Denmark) leads the journal and editorial team of FLR.
